No Problem Too Small – A Peek at the Grove City Counseling Center

Growing up I have a very vivid memory of going to the doctor every year to get a physical for school. I never thought twice about going because it was so normal to go to the doctors. Rarely do people question or minimize our needs regarding physical health but we often push aside our mental well-being.

Whether you struggle with depression or get stressed out easily, these are both effecting your mental health and take away from your ability to experience college and life to the fullest. At the Grove City Counseling Center there is no problem too small. Counseling Center director, Suzanne Houk, expresses that, “the Counseling Center is there for any emotional need that students have”. No matter what you are going through or struggling with the Counseling Center is there for you.

What does the Counseling Center have to offer?

College is a time of transition, growth, and change. The Counseling Center is a resource students can use to get the emotional support that is needed to go through this stage of life. A current student who has used the resources of the Center expressed that, “College has been a great experience for me, however there was a whole new set of stressors and emotions that came along with that, that I wasn’t always sure how to deal with.”

At Grove City there isn’t a waiting list to get into the Center. The moment you start experiencing anything you can make an appointment. Also, if you have utilized counseling before, you can easily make the transition to our Counseling Center before even arriving on campus.

The Center is completely free of charge to students and is well staffed. With 3 full time, 1 part time and 2 intern counselors, you are always going to be able to get fit in for an appointment. And with over 1/3 of the campus having at least gone to the center once, it’s good that they have so many staff members!

From the time students are accepted into Grove City College, they care about you. Not only academically and spiritually but they also care about your mental health. That’s why they have created the Counseling Center to be a place students can utilize whenever they so choose. The Counseling Center is a safe haven where students learn how to cope with the stress and pressures of life. They keep everything confidential, so it’s a safe place for students to be honest. So, if you ever feel the weight of school or life pulling you down, make sure to stop by the Counseling Center and meet with one of the welcoming staff members.
