Advising Guides & Status Sheets: What Are They? How do I Use Them?

In a previous post, we mentioned “Advising Guides” and “Status Sheets” and many of our readers asked for additional details. Thanks for your questions! You can find additional details below.

Q. What are Advising Guides and Status Sheets?

A. The Advising Guides are documents illustrating Grove City College’s policies and guidelines on AP, CLEP, and IB exams and scores, as well as additional policies. The Status Sheets list the courses that students must take in order to fulfill the requirements of a particular major. Please note that the Status Sheets are for your convenience and are unofficial. The Bulletin, your advisor, and the Registrar are the official sources of these details.

An excerpt from the Registrar’s website is below. You can see the listing of Status Sheets for the past few years under degree requirements. The Advising Guides, also known as Standardized Test Score Guides, are listed across the top.

If you scroll down, you will find a listing of possible majors.

Select your major of interest for the detailed list of graduation requirements. On the first page of the Status Sheet, you find the courses grouped by category (Humanities Core and Writing Requirement, for example).

On the second page of the Status Sheets, you can see a suggested list of courses by term.

Q. Where can I find them?

A. You can find the Status Sheets and the Advising Guides on the Registrar’s website under degree requirements.

Q. How do I use them?

A. By taking online courses at Grove City College as a high school student, you can complete many of the freshman requirements listed on the status sheets (Humanities, Writing, Social Sciences, etc.). You can refer to the advising guides to determine the requirements for your major and begin to take those classes now through our online program. You can find additional information on the pathways to specific Grove City College majors here. Keep in mind that all of this documentation is provided for your convenience; your college advisor can provide you with official guidance.
