Online Master of Economics – Course Descriptions<\/h4>\n

ECON 501. MICROECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nA study of the determination of the prices of consumer and producer goods and the role
\nof entrepreneurs in organizing production enterprises. The role of economic calculation
\nin making production and investment decisions will be highlighted. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 502. MACROECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nAn investigation into the causes and consequences of economic growth and business
\ncycles. Emphasis will be on the construction of the capital structure by entrepreneurs
\nand the role of financial markets in both economic progress and business cycles.
\nThree hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 504. MONETARY ECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nAn examination of advanced topics in money and banking. Topics include the nonneutrality of money, the historical and legal treatment of money and banking, and the
\nconsequences of different money and banking regimes. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 505. QUANTITATIVE METHODS IN ECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nA study of the uses and limitations of statistical, empirical, and mathematical methods
\nused in economic analysis. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 507. HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT I<\/strong>
\nAn exploration of the development of economic thought from the ancient Greeks up to
\nthe marginalist revolution. Different views on key economic topics will be highlighted.<\/p>\n

ECON 508. HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT II<\/strong>
\nAn exploration of the development of economic thought from the marginalist revolution
\nto the present. Different views on key economic topics will be highlighted. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 511. FINANCIAL ECONOMICS <\/strong>
\nAn economic analysis of financial markets and institutions. Topics covered include
\ncredit, equity, and derivative markets and financial intermediaries and insurance firms.<\/p>\n

ECON 512. INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND FINANCE<\/strong> 
\nAn examination of the market economy across different political jurisdictions.
\nInternational flows of goods, money, and capital funding will be covered in addition to
\nforeign currency exchange. <\/p>\n

ECON 521. PUBLIC ECONOMICS <\/strong>
\nAn analysis of the nature, operation, and consequences of state intervention in a market
\neconomy. Focus will be on attempts to regulate private initiative with legal impositions
\nand achieve political goals with fiscal policy.<\/p>\n

ECON 522. COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC SYSTEMS<\/strong>
\nA study of the nature and consequences of different economic systems. Market,
\ncommand, and interventionist economies will be covered. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 531. LAW AND ECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nAn economic analysis of law codes with an emphasis on property and contract. The
\nquestions of how law affects human behavior and what determines the structure of law
\nwill be explored. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 532. ORGANIZATIONAL ECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nAn examination of the economic logic of organizations. Focus will be on the theory and
\nhistory of the development and variety of business enterprises. Three hours.<\/p>\n

ECON 582. THESIS IN ECONOMICS<\/strong>
\nAn application of theoretical and historical knowledge to a practical problem in policy,
\ninstitutions, or finance. Six hours.<\/p>\n
