This past Sunday, April 26<\/span>th<\/span>, Grove City College\u2019s Gamma Sigma Phi sorority hosted a lively and well-attended pickleball tournament that brought together community for a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and charitable giving. The event served as a fundraiser for the local Strayhaven Animal Shelter.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Held on the lower campus courts, the tournament was made up of a wide range of participants, including but not limited to, members from different sororities, fraternities, independents, and community members. The atmosphere throughout the day was energetic and welcoming, with spectators cheering on players and enjoying the sense of comradery that has become a signature part of Grove City\u2019s student life.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond the competition, the true purpose of the event was to raise awareness and funds for Strayhaven Animal Shelter. Located in Mercer County, the nonprofit is dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and rehoming animals in need. Proceeds from team entry fees, donations, and event-day contributions will go directly toward supporting the shelter\u2019s daily operations, including food, medical care, and adoption services for animals in need.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Members of Gamma Sigma Phi emphasized that the tournament was not only designed to bring students together, but also to encourage service-minded leadership and community engagement. \u201cWe wanted to host a fun event that would bring more people out and just have a good time,\u201d said Gamma Sigma Phi member Anna Gockley. \u201cStrayhaven does incredible work and we\u2019re grateful we could support them.\u201d <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The success of the event was evident not only in participation numbers but also in the enthusiasm of those involved. Players of all skill levels took part, making matches competitive but also light-hearted and fun.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

As the tournament concluded, the winning team was made up of Garrett Ranney and Ashton Morrow. However, the biggest victory of the day was the collective impact made for Strathaven Animal Shelter. The event demonstrated how student organizations at Grove City College continue to find creative ways to blend fellowship, leadership, and community service.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

With the success of this year\u2019s tournament, Gamma Sigma Phi hopes to make the pickleball fundraiser an ongoing tradition- one that grows in participation and continues to support meaningful causes in the community.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
