Grovers got their fill a few weekends ago when a professor boy band by the name of Un-Direction took the stage of Crawford Auditorium, making its grand debut with a \u201cgob smacking\u201d rendition of a One Direction classic renamed \u201cWhat Makes You Love This School.\u201d As Un-Directions\u2019 manager, I had a front-row seat to the making of Faculty Follies 2015\u2014an experience neither I nor the 800 in attendance will soon forget.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-536 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-11-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"FF 11\" width=\"368\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-11-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-11.jpg 666w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As an annual event that premiered in the late \u201970s, Faculty Follies has become a longstanding tradition that not only provides comic relief for the hardworking, but also strengthens community on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe learn together, we eat together, we pray together\u2014it\u2019s good to laugh together as well,\u201d says political science professor Dr. Coulter (&#8217;91). As a seasoned participant, he\u2019s seen Follies evolve from its early days as a departmental variety show to its current status as a cross-disciplinary compilation of outlandish skits.<\/p>\n<p>In 1977 the Chapel Staff birthed the event, which was soon adopted by the honorary societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortarboard. Representing ODK, I got to work with the student-faculty team that made it all happen. Though quite a project to tackle\u2014from skit and video development to recruitment of faculty, prop collection, and advertising, as well as the pressure of pulling it all together in just two short rehearsals, somehow it turned out alright. Aside from learning some lessons in event planning and collaboration, I got a unique chance to be part of a Grove City legacy and make a few memories in the process.<\/p>\n<p>As an event that \u201callows students to see the faculty\u2019s lighter side,\u201d in the words of ODK Advisor Dr. Smith (&#8217;72), Follies 2015 did not disappoint. In the opening act, \u201cEvolution of Dance,\u201d fancy-footed faculty broke down the decades from \u201cThe Twist\u201d and \u201cThriller\u201d to \u201cCan\u2019t Touch This\u201d and \u201cBye Bye Bye.\u201d Additional musical talent was showcased in the \u201cLip Sync Throwdown,\u201d and English professor Dr. Harvey comically shed light on mopeds, mullets, and more in his \u201cVery Serious Poetry Analysis\u201d of Macklemore\u2019s \u201cDowntown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-526\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-1-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"FF 1\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-1-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-1.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-531\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-6-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"FF 6\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-6-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-6.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-527\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-2-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"FF 2\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-2-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/blogs.gcc.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/12\/FF-2.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other acts poked fun at campus culture, such as \u201cSnapple Facts with a Grover Twist.\u201d For instance, according to Snapple Fact 890 \u201cThe number one or the word one appears on the dollar bill 16 times,\u201d while Grover Fact 890 revealed that \u201cThe words &#8216;faith,&#8217; After guessing that \u201cbae\u201d stood for \u201cbacon and eggs,\u201d it was clear that faculty needed assistance to fight off such culture savvy collegians.
